On those rare nights when my husband and I finally get the kids to bed but are still awake enough to try to watch a movie together, nothing is more frustrating than having to spend half an hour looking for something we are both actually interested in watching.

No surprises there. It's also the worst. However, in the past few years, we have discovered a number of films that we both thoroughly enjoyed. I have therefore compiled a list of our most recent favorites in the hope of reducing your browsing time! There is bound to be at least one film on this list that piques your interest—comedy, action, historical drama, and mystery are just a few examples. If you are dating him then only you can watch this movie at night, this is just a date night movies that will make your mood romantic.

However, if you really enjoy great dramas, as my husband and I do, At the end of this list, I have added a few more titles from this particular genre.

So, put on some popcorn, a blanket, and a glass of wine, and get cozy! Additionally, if you know of any others, please leave a comment with your suggestions for our subsequent date nights spent at home!

01. About Time (2013) received multiple recommendations when I asked other moms for movie suggestions for date nights. It's a sweet and funny romantic comedy about a man who can go back in time. With this power, he chooses to redo certain events, but the changes he makes frequently produce outcomes he didn't anticipate.

One of the best things about this movie is that it shows how important it is to have a family. Because this part of the story is so important, there are some very relatable and touching moments for parents to watch. It is funny, and clever, and focuses on the fact that time is truly a gift. I think this movie was perfectly summed up in one review.

02. La La Land (2016) is a musical film about two artists trying to make it in Hollywood. It is essentially a millennial version of Casablanca. Mia (Emma Stone), an aspirant actress, and Sebastian (Ryan Gosling), a musician, meet and fall in love. However, as they both begin to gain fame and success, their relationship is put under pressure. This is a good choice if you enjoy great cinematography and music!

03. Green Book (2018)- The impressive classical and jazz pianist, African American Don Shirely, and his Italian American bouncer, played by Viggo Mortenson, are the focus of the 2018 film Green Book, which takes place in 1962 and follows their road trip. The book that was used as a guide for black travelers seeking services in the South at that time is referred to as the "green book."

Despite the fact that it was criticized for suggesting a "white savior agenda," this movie won an Oscar for Best Picture. It is worth watching, in my opinion, not only because the plot is interesting but also because it shows the dangers of prejudice and how important values like compassion, friendship, and empathy are.

This is a film you'll enjoy if you like films that give you something to think about and talk about, with good music, history, and great acting.

04. 04. Murder Mystery (2019)- With a title like Murder Mystery (2019), you might think that this movie is pretty serious, but it's not. It's a given that it will be funny because Adam Sandler plays the male lead.

The plot centers on a married couple on a European vacation who happens to be on a billionaire's yacht when a murder occurs. This film is down-to-earth and relatable because the couple is celebrating their 15th wedding anniversary and, like many married couples, fights over insignificant things arise, making it relatable. Additionally, the element of mystery keeps you wondering "who did it." Anyone looking for a good time will enjoy this.

05. The Post (2017)-Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks star in the historical drama The Post (2017), which depicts a pivotal moment in Katharine Graham's career as the first female publisher of The Washington Post, a major American newspaper.

It is based on a true story about how a few American journalists tried to expose classified information about the Vietnam War. I love that this movie shows how important press freedom is and how much good journalism can affect society.

06.  Man From U.N.C.L.E. (2015)-It is an adaptation of the popular 1960s television series Man from U.N.C.L.E. Set in 1963, during the height of the Cold War, this spy film is about two secret agents—a Russian and an American—who have to work together to save both countries from a nuclear threat.

With their strikingly different backgrounds and personalities, the two male leads' ironic dichotomy creates a funny storyline that keeps you laughing and engaged. Overall, it's a fun mix of romance, action, and adventure.

07. The Guernsey Literary and Sweet Potato Pie Society (2018)-Despite its long title, The Guernsey Literary and Sweet Potato Pie Society (2018) is a delightful film that ranks among my personal favorites. This charming drama, set in 1946 England and based on the best-selling historical novel by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows, follows a writer as she navigates the world with her pen. Her writing takes her to the island of Guernsey, where she meets a man who catches her eye and shares her love of reading. This is a traditional romance that is truly wholesome.

Note: Netflix is the only place to watch this movie.

08. Oceans 8 (2018)- The heist comedy Oceans 8 (2018), a female spin-off of Steven Soderbergh's Ocean's Trilogy, is about a group of women who set out to steal a $150 million necklace from the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Annual Gala. This film may not be comparable to past Sea motion pictures, but rather it has its own style and appeal. This is a good choice if you enjoy a good heist story and a light-hearted movie.
